On Your Marks, Get Set…

 

So you’ve reluctantly waved goodbye to Summer, your mom has made a fuss of buying your last uniform and you’ve gone stone mad buying all the multicoloured biros and highlighters you can get your hands on in Easons. Welcome to the Leaving Cert.

        First off, let me tell you something about me, by now you’ve gathered that my name is Eimear and I am a Leaving Cert student. I’m eighteen and obsessed with all things music related. The dream is to work in radio (producer, broadcaster, sound engineer, window cleaner, I’m easy) The idea of working somewhere where everyday is a new day excites me to the last but for now all I need to do is get over this pesky Leaving Cert. with hopefully you by my side.

The next ten months we will be expected to have our heads stuck in the books with the technological devices turned off, to be reciting Biology definitions like the latest Avicii floor filler and be all round role model citizens/students for the younger generations blah blah blah. In reality I know I’ll be counting down the days until mid term break with every plus and minus of my maths homework. But this is what I am here for, to give some of you an insight into the life of a Leaving Cert. warrior and or a shoulder you are welcome to laugh, weep, curse, jump with joy on. *cue music from High School Musical “we’re all in this together…”*

        Let’s all be honest here, this year is going to be a bitch. But a good bitch as this is the year where final memories will be made, the good, the bad and the extremely ugly. We will struggle to juggle between our social life, our school life, our family life with maybe work and different hobbies thrown in the mix. All we have to cling onto is the fact that we shall make it to the other side with every tear stained page of our English novel (mine is “How Many Miles to Babylon?” sorry Jennifer Johnston but I ain’t a fan, but more of that throughout the year..)

        During the coming weeks and months I hope you enjoy my babblings and random observations of the hotly anticipated time ahead. So highlighters at the ready, on your marks, get set...GO!
