Throwing In The Towel

 

 

 

First off, apologies to you and yours for the lateness of this article. You could say that I was too busy being all studious and what not but… actually no that sounds good so yeah, I was too busy being all studious.

 

Over the past two weeks I have attended two Career Fairs, UCC and UL open day and the one common strike between all of them is that I have come home deflated and sort of dejected.

 

One would probably expect me to know what I want to do next year after all this activity. So do I have any inclination? Nope, nada, faic, zilch, nein, nix, negative, no clue in God’s earthly world… Basically no. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t the Career Fairs or Open Days faults, it’s just the more I talked to people of courses I might be interested in, my interest levels went down to Chinatown.

 

For example, UCC is a beautiful campus (obvious I’m from Cork eh?) but I am totally turned off Film & Screen Studies, Music, Politics and Languages. UL was exciting with a great buzz about the place but nothing reached and grabbed hold of my interest for longer than you can say “Limerick is some banter”. To be perfectly honest, both days when I came home, I went straight to the pjs and Netflix took my mind off my lack of a certain future.

 

It was then I proclaimed to mom and dad that maybe I shouldn’t go to college, then I got a wake up call. Mom listened to my fears of choosing a course not right for me and wasting money and the thought of a job prospect looking slimmer than a stiletto heel. And being a typical Irish mammy, she told me straight;

“your choices are endless and possibilities boundless. Don’t throw in the towel now. No one knows what, when or where something will grab your attention and click with you. I’m sure it will happen”

 

So there you have it folks, sound advice from Nora Cronin. Don’t throw in the towel.

 

Shoutout to the people reading this that are definite on what they want to do. If I had a hat I would take it off to you and just to let you know that I am completely and 100% jealous of you.
