MAKE FEAR YOUR BITCH

Note from Leaving Cert Countdown: As you Leaving Cert Warriors get ready for the challenge of your achademic life, Leaving Cert Countdown follows Mark Leruste, London based certified Life Coach and publish author on his 365 day fitness challenge. Bring on the motivation! Please note that we do not suggest you try this as home! The Leaving Cert year is not the year to take on the fitness challenge of your life! However, keeping positive, motivated and with your eye on the final goal is an important factor. This is what Mark's challenge is all about! On the other hand, some fresh air and exercise is not a bad idea anfter long hours in the classroom and studying...and better to start any regime at the beginning of the year as opposed to a few weeks before exams...over to Mark!

Body Evolution (Week 2)

It wouldn’t be a challenge without a bit of public embarrassment. So here is the photo of my physical evolution after my second week trying to get my life in shape. Ps: I feel like my 7 dat vegan challenge was a huge help to trim off some body fat before kicking off The Three-Six-Five!

Don’t let commuting be your excuse

This week I discovered the joy of commuting two hours door to door to get into work. That’s basically four hours spent commuting every day. So it was more than tempting to skip a work out, or five. Fitting in a gym session can quickly become mission impossible. That’s why I realised that the only way I can fit in a daily workout is to do it in the morning before I leave for work. Trust me, I’m not a morning person either. As a matter of fact I’d much rather sleep more in the morning and workout in the evenings just after work or even better at lunch time. But because of the working hours and commuting time, that’s just not possible right now. So here’s my advice. Set your alarm 15-20min earlier than you usually do. Don’t snooze it. Get your arse out of bed. Go get yourself a glass of water (you need to hydrate your body) and have a little stretch. I personally kick off my circuit with a quick session of shadow boxing (2-5min). Do 30 push ups (or whatever number you’re comfortable with, five is also fine), then get on your back and do one minute of bicycle abs. Next find a chair or a table or a couch, and do 30 dips (make sure your elbows are nicely tucked in), stand up, feet shoulders apart, perform 30 dynamic squats (make sure you control the movement before you speed up). That’s one series of your circuit. Rest one minute and repeat your circuit twice. You’re now good to go! Oh and I would recommend you do that before you swallow down your full Irish…

My Life in Shape

The Challenge (Video Blog 1)

The first video blog of my epic challenge is out now!

Mark Leruste is an award-winning social entrepreneur, men’s health activist and author of “It’s Not You, It’s Me” who wholeheartedly believes everyone should pursue their wildest dreams. As a certified coach and self proclaimed Unconventional Hustler, Mark helps unleash frustrated professionals into more fulfilling, entrepreneurial and meaningful careers.

In 2012, his viral video CV, “A Dream Job Would Be Nice” totalled 40,000 views on YouTube and landed him his dream job at Movember, where Mark helped launch and develop the Foundation across four countries.

Over the years, Mark has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, LifeByMe.com and The Sunday Telegraph. He has lived across four continents, generated millions in sales and fundraising, bungee jumped off Victoria Falls, co-founded an online suit tailoring service for men, competed in a mixed martial arts tournament for charity and became a sponsored vegan athlete overnight.

But Mark’s greatest achievement to date might just be that he narrowly escaped a lucrative career in corporate media sales to do the work he’s passionate about.
